Before Arthur Lowe became known as Captain Mainwaring his best known role was that of Leonard Swindley in Coronation Street.
A popular recurring character on the domestic drama series, Arthur was given his own series as Swindley following his departure from the street in 1965. Pardon The Expression was a spin-off sitcom following the mixed fortunes of former Weatherfield boutique owner Swindley in his new position as assistant manager at a Dobson and Hawks chain store. The punctilious but ambitious Mr. Swindley seizes upon every opportunity to scale the social heights arranging everything from intimate dinner parties to glittering charity galas and swinging teenage boutiques.
Featuring scripts from Harry Driver, Vince Powell and Jack Rosenthal, Pardon The Expression also includied appearances from Betty Driver, Julie Goodyear and Amanda Barrie as well as future Dad's Army regulars John Le Mesurier and John Laurie.
As a bonus, there is also a Christmas special featured on the collection originally planned for broadcast over in 1965 holiday, but unseen until now.
