Treading The Boards: Pamela Cundell In The Magic Carpet (1968-1969)

Pamela Cundell is better known to Dad's Army fans for her numerous appearances as Mrs Fox in the show.

However; Pamela was a very popular actress on stage and film before her appearances in Dad's Army, 1968 in particular had been a busy year for Pam having recently featured in the cinema musical Half A Sixpence which starred Tommy Steele.

Pamela rounded off 1968 at The Yvonne Arnaud Theatre's production of John Dalby's The Magic Carpet in which she featured as Fatima, Mother Of The Sultan.  The production commenced on December 23, 1968 and ran until January 18, 1969.

The production also featured John Dalby as Shimazamazam - King of The Genies, Arthur Howard was Abu Gaffer, Royce Mills was Jabberjaws, Karen St.Clare was Zaida and a young up and coming star David Essex (some five years before pop stardom) featured as Zelim, Sultan of Balsorah.
  • If anyone has any memories, newspaper clippings or ephemera of this production, I'd love to hear from you, in order to feature more information in a future post.
