The Olympic Flame In Newport

The boys meet Fireman Sam at the Riverfront
A week ago the Olympic flame came through our home city of Newport. As we aren't going to get to see the games in London we thought it would be good to get into town for the afternoon to catch the torch as it ran through the city centre.

It was a scorcher of a day and I'd amassed a few lunch hours to warrant an afternoon off so I joined Rachel and the children for a Subway and a Caramel Coffee Frappuccino from Starbucks before making our way along to Newport Riverfront where the torch would be passing through.

The Riverfront had some free entertainment on including dancing from many local schools and Fireman Sam and Mickey Mouse showing up to meet and greet the children.

Jon made a good effort
After staying around the Riverfront for an hour we went along to Newport Centre where there was an outdoor fitness demonstration before taking our position outside the university for the torch relay to go by.

It was a spectacular but quick experience and you really did feel part of something special, however this would not be my only encounter with the flame as I would later discover!
