NATO Festivities at Newport Riverfont

Remembering August
As the NATO summit approaches Newport next month crowds took to the city centre and riverside area to sample food, drink and music as well as activities from regiments of the British Army on Saturday afternoon.

A selection of live bands and singers took to the Riverfront terrace from 12pm. These included Remembering August AKA acoustic singer/songwriters Jessie and Luke met in 2011 when they both attended Bridgend College in South Wales. They started performing together early May 2013 after being paired up for a project in class. Since then, they have performed in many different venues over South Wales and the rest of the UK.  The pair performed songs from their debut EP as well as some covers and new compositions. More about Remembering August at their official website.

Danielle Lewis
New Quay singer songwriter Danielle Lewis followed Remembering August. We saw Danielle perform the Riverfront Terrace recently and I had pleasure in featuring her in The Guide's Meet The Artist a short while ago.

Danielle is making exciting waves with her acoustic compositions mixing a variety of English and Welsh material including songs from her debut EP Paper Hearts as well as a few interesting covers. Particularly impressive was her rendition of You're The One That I Want from Grease.

For more on Danielle visit her official website.

Red Devils Stunt Plane
At the climax of Danielle's act crowds began to appear around The Riverfront terrace area to witness The Red devils display team parachute from their plane and land in nearby Rodney Parade.
Paddy James
Southampton's Paddy James took to the stage with an entertaining acoustic set full of energy and a bit of a twinkle in his eye. He performed songs from his forthcoming debut EP - ‘The Lost Boy’ - which is set to be released in early 2015 and squeezed in his appearance at The NATO gig ahead of another show in Swansea later in the day for the IPC Athletics closing ceremony in Swansea.

For more about Paddy's music visit his official website.

The afternoon came to an end with more music from Tobias Robertson and Ellie Makes Music. The Riverfront certainly knows how to keep the crowds entertained!
